PREPARED AND AMPLIFIED DRUMSET

A drumkit is a mix of instruments. Hystorically, percussions were played by various musicians, sometimes more than three poeple. But for several reasons (financial, logistic or musical), orchesters slowly started to merge these roles into a single practice instead of snare drum, bass drum and cymbals. 

Starting from this idea, PREPARED AND AMPLIFIED DRUMSET reconsider every part of the drumkit not only as an individual source of sound, but also as a member of an abstract rock band. Like if the bassist has been litterally swallowed into the kick, the floor tom plays guitar chords, hihat become a random synth, etc. So this project explore a way to imitate a complete « noise band » only using the acoustic drumkit (without any triggers or samples). Mixed with hand-made piezzo microphones and various strings as additional source, the drumset became a new instrument able to create notes, harmonies and drones. By the way, the use of effects like distortions, loopers or delays open a large range of possibilities to build beats and riffs. In the end, all those sounds are meticulously distributed in various guitar and bass amps that creates a real impression of a live playing band.

Playing solo, the music is mostly improvised and can be adapted to the specificities of performative spaces or moods.
